Google Ads Lead Forms Qualifying Answers

Google Ads Introduces Qualifying Answers for Lead Forms

Google Ads lead forms now include qualifying answers, a feature that helps advertisers identify promising prospects before they submit a form. Advertisers can mark specific responses as qualifying to distinguish relevant leads from submissions that are less likely to become customers.

How Qualifying Answers Work in Google Ads Lead Forms

Advertisers can add a multiple-choice question to a lead form and select one or more answers that indicate a qualified lead. When someone submits the form with a qualifying answer, Google Ads automatically tags the submission as a qualified lead. Advertisers can use questions about customer needs, service requirements, interests, or purchase readiness to identify prospects who better match their business goals. Qualifying questions are required and cannot be set as optional.

Key Benefits for Advertisers

The feature aims to improve lead quality and reduce the time spent reviewing irrelevant submissions. Its main benefits include:

  • Better lead identification by collecting information about prospects before they submit the form.
  • Less manual sorting because Google Ads automatically tags submissions that meet the selected criteria.
  • Improved lead management through lead-stage information included in CSV files, webhooks, and API outputs.
  • More useful campaign insights by helping advertisers distinguish qualified leads from total form submissions.

Conversion Tracking and Optimization

Qualifying answers also connect with conversion reporting. When a qualifying question is active in a campaign, Google Ads automatically adds a conversion action named “Lead form – Response qualified (Google-hosted)” to the Qualified lead goal. This helps advertisers understand which campaigns generate prospects who meet their qualification criteria, rather than measuring only the total number of form submissions. Google Ads also provides lead-form optimization options, including “More qualified” and “More volume.” These allow advertisers to prioritize lead quality or submission volume, depending on their campaign objectives.

Availability and Setup Notes

Qualifying answers are currently available for Search campaigns only. Advertisers can configure the feature through the lead form asset editor by adding a multiple-choice question and marking the answers that qualify as valuable leads. Existing forms without a qualifying question may need to be updated or recreated to use the feature. Advertisers should also ensure their qualifying questions reflect meaningful business requirements rather than simply filtering out a large number of potential customers.

What This Means for Lead Generation

The update gives advertisers a built-in way to identify qualified prospects through Google-hosted lead forms. By tagging submissions according to selected answers and connecting the information with conversion reporting, Google Ads can provide more insight into lead quality. For businesses running Search campaigns to generate enquiries, quotes, or consultation requests, qualifying answers offer a practical way to prioritize relevant prospects. However, the feature uses advertiser-defined answers rather than automatically assigning numerical scores to leads, and its impact on campaign performance will depend on how effectively those criteria reflect genuine customer potential.
