The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new mascot for Aadhaar known as ‘Udai’ (उदय). This is part of a wider effort to make services linked to the world’s largest biometric database easier for members of the public both to access– and to understand.
The mascot was created as a friendly face for Aadhaar, helping to break down complex details about enrollment authentication offline verification and responsible use into simple terms. You’ll see it in UIDAI campaigns on the internet as well as at events making communications more engaging and approachable.
According to the UIDAI officials at the launch event, Udai is going to be like a friend helping regular folks get what Aadhaar services are all about– explaining things simply and naturally. They believe with Udai more people will know how to use the technology responsibly and in a good way!
The selection of the mascot truly mirrors UIDAI’s dedication to involving everyone. They ran a big competition on the MyGov website asking people to design and name it. Lots of entries were sent from all corners of India– and the winner was revealed at an exciting event in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala!
Udai’s introduction is part of UIDAI’s larger plan making use of visual communication and engagement tools reaching citizens effectively where technical information is difficult.
Ensuring public trust, spreading awareness, and simplifying the flow of essential information about India’s unique identity system are top priorities for the UIDAI. And now with Udai as the new face of Aadhaar, it looks set to achieve those goals!
