Gemini AI Plus Pro Access Restrictions for Subscribers

Gemini AI Plus Subscribers to Lose Access to Pro Models

Gemini AI Plus subscribers are set to lose access to Pro models, as Google changes which AI models are available across its subscription plans. Google is emailing affected subscribers with the date the change will take effect for their account. Recent reports indicate that some subscribers have been given November 13, 2026, as the cutoff date.

What is Changing for Gemini AI Plus Pro Access

AI Plus subscribers will retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash models, but they will no longer be able to select Pro models in the Gemini app or AI Mode in Google Search once the change takes effect. Google describes its Pro models as options for more complex tasks that require advanced reasoning and capabilities. The change follows Google’s earlier announcement that free users would lose access to Flash and Pro models from October 9, leaving Flash-Lite as their available model. AI Plus subscribers will continue to have access to Flash alongside Flash-Lite, giving them more model choice than free users.

Which Plans Still Offer Pro Models

Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers will retain access to Pro models. Google’s latest Gemini 4 Argon model is also available to Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search.

The plans differ in price and access:

  • Google AI Plus costs $4.99 per month and retains Flash-Lite and Flash, along with other subscription benefits.
  • Google AI Pro costs $19.99 per month and includes access to Pro models, Flash and Flash-Lite, with higher usage limits and additional features.
  • Google AI Ultra starts at $99.99 per month and offers the highest level of access to Google’s AI features and models.

Google has also introduced Deep Think access for AI Pro subscribers, expanding the advanced reasoning features available on that tier. Availability and usage limits can vary by feature and subscription.

Why Gemini AI Plus Pro Access Matters to Users

The change may disappoint subscribers who chose AI Plus primarily for access to Pro models. Those users will need to decide whether the remaining features justify the subscription cost or whether upgrading to AI Pro is worthwhile. However, AI Plus still offers benefits beyond model access, including higher usage limits than the free plan, additional features across Google’s services and 400 GB of cloud storage. Subscribers who mainly use Gemini for everyday questions and routine tasks may find Flash sufficient for their needs.

Model Access and Usage Limits Are Separate

The change affects which models subscribers can select, rather than simply reducing how many prompts they can send. A higher usage allowance does not restore access to a model excluded from a subscription tier. Google’s published usage limits give AI Plus subscribers twice the standard allowance of the free plan, while AI Pro offers four times the standard allowance. Actual limits can vary depending on the model, feature and type of request.

What AI Plus Users Should Do Next

Subscribers should check their email for Google’s notification explaining when Pro model access will end for their account. Those who rely on Pro for coding, research or detailed analysis can compare AI Pro’s additional capabilities and higher price before deciding whether to upgrade. Users who mainly need quick answers and everyday assistance may be comfortable staying on AI Plus. They should also consider its other benefits, including cloud storage, rather than judging the subscription solely by model availability.

Overall, the reported change makes subscription tiers more important when choosing Gemini. Users should check the models and features included in their plan before subscribing or upgrading.
